Biography

Jordi Altimiras is a Professor at Linköping University in Sweden, focusing on the evolutionary physiology of the heart in various animal species, particularly in birds. His research interests include the study of heart evolution and how environmental challenges affect heart function, particularly in relation to birds' adaptation to colder climates. Altimiras's work highlights the differences in pathological cardiac hypertrophy and normal growth processes among different species, including the significant variations between reptiles and birds. He studies ancient and extant birds, such as South American tinamous, to understand the transformation of heart size from reptiles to birds. His research has implications for both basic cardiology and biomedical understanding of heart functions and diseases.
