Dr. Jörg-Rüdiger Sack received his Master of Computer Science degree from the University of Bonn, Germany, and his Ph.D. from McGill University in Montreal. He has served as the editor-in-chief for journals including Computational Geometry: Theory and Applications and the Journal of Spatial Information Science, and has been an editor for the Journal of Visualization and Computer Animation. Dr. Sack was the founding chair of NSERC’s national Computer Science Liaison Committee, which played an instrumental role in the creation of the national CS organization CS-Can. He has served as the Science Advisor to the German Embassy in Ottawa since 2016, and as a member of the decision-making body of the German Excellence Initiative. Dr. Sack is also appointed as the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Zuse Institute and is a member of the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board responsible for Computer Science. Additionally, he has participated as a member on various committees including the G8 Research Councils Initiative on Multilateral Research Funding, the CFI Cyber-infrastructure Workshop, and the Tricouncil+ Consultation Workshop on Big Data and Digital Scholarship. A professor at Carleton University’s School of Computer Science since 1983, his research interests include Algorithms, Computational Geometry, Data Structures, and GIS.
