Biography

Professor Jörg E. Drewes holds a professorship in Urban Water Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Munich. His research interests focus on developing sustainable urban water systems to serve future generations. The systems examined by Professor Drewes include energy recovery from waste streams, membrane hybrid processes, and engineered natural treatment systems emphasizing groundwater recharge and water recycling. His notable research work is conducted in collaboration with water utilities and plant manufacturers, utilizing both laboratory and full-scale systems. Jörg studied environmental engineering at the Technical University of Berlin from 1987 to 1992 and received his PhD in 1997. Following his doctoral studies, he pursued an academic career in the USA supported by a grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University. In 1999, he became the associate director of the National Center for Sustainable Water Supply. He joined the faculty at the Colorado School of Mines in 2001, was promoted to associate professor in 2006, and became a full professor in 2010. In 2013, he was appointed as a professor at the Technical University of Munich.
