Biography

Professor Jörg Haustein joined the Faculty of Divinity in 2019, where he teaches about religions in Africa. Prior to this, he taught at the School of Oriental and African Studies from 2013 to 2019 and at the University of Heidelberg from 2003 to 2013. He earned his PhD from the University of Heidelberg in the study of Ethiopian Pentecostalism in 2009 and completed his habilitation with a study on German colonialism and Islam in East Africa in 2020. His research interests encompass Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, colonialism, and their implications in African contexts. He teaches courses such as World Religions in a Comparative Perspective and Decolonising Christendom, and he supervises PhD students on topics related to African media, evangelicalism, and Pentecostalism. He serves as the Global Christianity Fellow at Selwyn College and as the Director of Studies and Postgraduate Admissions Tutor there.
