Dr. Jorge Canizares Esguerra

Biography

Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra is a professor in the Department of History at the University of Texas at Austin. He has authored over 60 journal articles and book chapters, including influential works such as 'How to Write History of the New World' (2001), 'Puritan Conquistadors' (2006), and 'Nature, Empire, Nation' (2007). His recent co-edited volume, 'The Atlantic World's Global History, 1500-2000', reflects his extensive research interests in Early Modern Atlantic History, Science Colonialism, and the history of knowledge in Colonial Spanish and British America. Cañizares-Esguerra's contributions to historical scholarship have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the AHA Prize in Atlantic History and the Latin American Spanish History award. He has also served on various editorial boards, contributing to numerous academic journals. He received his Ph.D. in History of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1995 and has held fellowships at institutions such as the Kellogg Institute and the Huntington Library. Cañizares-Esguerra is actively involved in the academic community, participating in various committees related to history and science.
