Professor Ferrer chairs Genetics Medicine and heads the Section of Epigenomics and Disease. He is the Lead for Genetics and Genomics at the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre and a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator. He received his medical degree and trained in Endocrinology at the University of Barcelona School of Medicine. He further trained in genetics and transcriptional regulation at Washington University and Harvard University before returning to the Institut d’Investigacions Biomediques August Pi Sunyer in Barcelona as part of CIBERDEM. He later moved to Imperial College London where he established a laboratory at the Imperial Centre for Translational Experimental Medicine. In 2018, he became a Senior Group Leader at Barcelona's Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG). Professor Ferrer is interested in understanding genome regulation in pancreatic beta cells and its implications for human diabetes. His team combines genetic model systems and advanced genomics to address key questions in human beta cell biology, regeneration, and disease.
