Biography

Jorge Laval is a Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He obtained his B.S. in Civil Industrial Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in 1995, his M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2001, and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, Dr. Laval held consecutive postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Berkeley and the French National Institute for Safety Transportation Research (INRETS). Dr. Laval has five years of experience as a transportation engineer at the Chilean Ministry of Public Works, where he conducted numerous traffic revenue studies for urban and inter-urban road concessions. He serves on the editorial board for Transportation Research Part B and has research interests in traffic flow theory, numerical solution methods for simulation of traffic flow models, queueing theory, and dynamic congestion pricing.
