Biography

Jorge Marchand is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Biomolecular Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2019, where he also received a Chancellor Fellowship. Prior to his current position, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Genetics from 2019 to 2021. His research primarily focuses on synthetic biology, chemical biology, and biomolecular engineering, specifically in reprogramming life through the engineering of building blocks such as amino acids and nucleic acids. The Marchand lab aims to expand the repertoire of biomolecules available for biosynthesis, harnessing biology and biocatalysts to produce innovative, new-to-nature chemical products. He has contributed to numerous significant publications, where his research intersects data science, molecular simulation, health, and biotechnology.
