Biography

Jorge Sanchez Perez is an assistant professor at the University of Alberta's Department of Philosophy. He specializes in social epistemology, Indigenous philosophy, and legal and political philosophy. Originally from Peru, he completed his LLB at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and earned his master's degree in philosophy at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. He attained his MSc in philosophy from the University of Edinburgh and received his PhD from McMaster University in 2021. Prior to his current role, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Simon Fraser University, focusing on a project about Extending New Narratives in the History of Philosophy, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. In addition to his academic appointments, he has taught Indigenous philosophy at SFU. His current research involves the interaction between Latin American philosophy and Indigenous perspectives, particularly the philosophical insights found in the late 16th-century Huarochirí Manuscript. He has received several research awards, including the McMaster University’s International Student Excellence Award and the Support Advancement Scholarship Research Fund from the University of Alberta.
