Biography

Jørgen Chr. Bang has been affiliated with Danish/Nordic studies since the inception of the university in 1966, first as a student, then as a teaching assistant, and from 1974 as an associate professor at the Nordic Institute/Department of Language and Communication. Over the years, he has taught and researched various topics, including traditional linguistic subjects such as language history, runes, grammar, and semantics, alongside contemporary issues like Language and Gender, Language and Society, and Language and Consciousness. Since 1990, he has been a member of the international scientific steering group Ecology Language and has contributed to the Research Group: Ecology, Language Ideology. He has participated in and co-organized international conferences in Denmark, Europe, the USA, and Asia, and has also lectured in Uganda and Greenland. Bang has published in both Danish and English on topics covering language history, runes, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and dialectical language and communication theory.
