Biography

Jørgen Podemann Sørensen is an Associate Professor emeritus at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in religious history. His primary research interests lie in ancient Egyptian religions and the late antiquity period, focusing on the historical roots of these religions. He conducts comparative studies of ritual practices, particularly in relation to Hermetic literature and Gnostic texts. Recently, he has been involved in analyzing the Hermetic tractate Kore Kosmou, examining aspects of ritual appointment and the construction of reading processes within ancient contexts. Throughout his career, Sørensen has served as an editor for academic journals and has contributed significantly to the scholarly understanding of religious practices and mysticism within ancient Egyptian contexts and the broader field of late antiquity.
