Joris Remmers is an associate professor at the Composite Materials research group within the Mechanics and Materials department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on fiber reinforced composite materials and additive manufacturing, with an emphasis on improving the mechanical properties of products. He investigates the relationship between manufacturing process conditions and the microstructure of materials, as well as the mechanical properties of the final structure. Utilizing a variety of advanced numerical techniques, he explores multi-physics phenomena across different length scales. Remarkably, the performance of engineered materials, particularly composites and 3D printed materials, has improved significantly through the study of the evolution of complex microstructures using these advanced techniques. Prior to his current role, he completed his MSc in Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology in 1998 and earned his PhD in 2006, focusing on the simulation of crack propagation in materials and structures using the partition unity method. In 2007, he joined TU/e as an assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering department before advancing to his current position as associate professor.
