Biography

Jørn Brøndal is a Professor and Chair of the Center for American Studies at the University of Southern Denmark, specializing in political history with a focus on race and ethnicity. He has made significant contributions to Scandinavian-American migration history and played a key role in introducing the ‘whiteness’ perspective in this field. His research includes in-depth studies of historical reform movements, notably the Progressive Movement and the Civil Rights Movement. Brøndal is currently engaged in writing about U.S. political history from approximately 1890 to 2025, focusing on presidents, politics, populism, and polarization.
