Jorrit Gosens received his PhD in Environmental Economics & Management from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he focused on the formation of China’s capabilities and its transition lagging behind the leading renewable energy industries. During his post-doctoral period, his work continued to focus on geographical elements of innovation within renewable energy industries, aiming to understand how countries’ innovation systems are interconnected and how industries tend to relocate over time, strongly influenced by domestic technological developments and global dynamics. In his current position at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Jorrit builds models of energy resource markets with a specific focus on Australia-China trade in thermal and coking coal, and iron ore, especially how these are affected by decarbonization plans and the transition to green steel. He has researched Chinese energy policy and the development of the Chinese renewable energy industry for over a decade, and he directs the Strategic Research Spoke on ‘Energy Transitions’ at the Australian Centre for China in the World. Additionally, he is the creator and editor of the China Energy Portal, a website that provides translations of Chinese energy policy and statistics.
