Biography

Jos de Mul is a professor of Philosophical Anthropology at the Erasmus School of Philosophy, with a distinguished career spanning several decades. He earned his Master's degree in Philosophy at the Universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam in 1981, graduating cum laude. Subsequently, he obtained his PhD from the University of Nijmegen in 1993 with a thesis reconstructing Wilhelm Dilthey's critique of historical reason. De Mul joined the Erasmus School of Philosophy in 1988 and has since published over thirty books and more than one hundred twenty academic articles. His research focuses on overlapping domains including philosophical anthropology, philosophy of art and culture, and philosophy of information and communication technologies. De Mul’s work has been translated into multiple languages, making significant contributions to the discourse on modern philosophy. He has supervised numerous PhD candidates and held visiting professorships at prestigious institutions such as the University of Michigan and Fudan University. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he has received several awards, including the national Praemium Erasmianum Research Prize for his dissertation. He is actively involved in editorial and program committees for research organizations and is a member of international philosophical associations.
