Biography

Josanne van Dongen is currently an associate professor of Forensic Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she leads the forensic education initiatives and the new Forensic Legal Psychology master's program. Her research connects psychosis with violence and she directs the SAFER Lab, which focuses on Social Affective Forensic Electrophysiological Research aimed at promoting a 'safer' society. Her studies often explore the electrophysiology of brain modulation techniques and investigate the roles of empathy and callous-unemotional traits in violent behavior. Dr. van Dongen has gained international recognition in her field, receiving the prestigious Early Career Award from the International Association for Forensic Mental Health Services in 2017. She has secured several research grants and published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals. In addition, she has contributed to edited volumes on Forensic Psychiatry and has chaired international symposiums. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the International Association for Forensic Mental Health Services and chairs the International Scientific Council at the Expertise Centre of Forensic Psychiatry in the Netherlands.
