Biography

Jose Cortes-Briones is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University and serves as the Technical Director of the MEG Imaging Neuropsychiatric Disorders (MIND) Center at the West Haven VA Healthcare System. He is a member of the Schizophrenia Neuropharmacology Research Group at Yale (SNRGY) and the Yale Center for Science Cannabis Cannabinoids (YC-SCAN2). His primary research interests focus on understanding brain dynamics and the acute effects of psychoactive substances such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and ketamine, particularly concerning auditory verbal hallucinations in individuals with schizophrenia. Dr. Cortes-Briones is currently applying machine learning algorithms to analyze inner speech associated with auditory verbal hallucinations and is also working on reconstructing fetal EEG data collected non-invasively from the maternal abdomen. His research aims to explore the effects of THC on information transmission, modification, and storage in the brain, as well as the excitatory-to-inhibitory balance in schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders.
