Biography

José Costa is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pathology at Yale University School of Medicine and an Honorary Professor at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He is an internationally renowned leader in the field of cancer diagnostics, tumor formation, and the evolution of malignancies. Dr. Costa transitioned to Emeritus status on April 1, 2018, after serving in various leadership positions, including Chief of the Anatomical Pathology Branch at the National Institutes of Health and Director of the Institute of Pathology at the University of Lausanne. He has contributed significantly to cancer research with 170 original publications and has worked on understanding the micro-evolutionary dynamics of tumor progression. His innovative approaches have been crucial in developing early detection methods for cancer and enhancing diagnostic capabilities. Dr. Costa is also a co-inventor of several diagnostic technologies and has played a vital role in public-private partnerships aimed at cancer diagnosis and treatment.
