Biography

José Miguel Figueroa-O'Farrill is a professor at the University of Edinburgh's School of Mathematics specializing in Mathematical Physics. His research primarily involves applying algebraic geometry to resolve issues in String Theory and he is captivated by the mathematical manifestations of supersymmetry. His previous works include studies on conformal field theory, integrable systems, and knot theory, and he enjoys incorporating homological methods into his research whenever possible. He was born in Havana and has had an extensive academic journey, earning his PhD from SUNY Stony Brook in 1989. Since then, he has held academic positions at various institutions including KU Leuven, RFWU Bonn, and Queen Mary University of London, before ultimately joining the University of Edinburgh. His contributions to the field have been significant, and he is well-regarded for his deep knowledge and insights in Mathematical Physics.
