Dr. Jose Gomez Ibanez

Biography

José Gómez-Ibáñez is the Derek C. Bok Professor of Urban Planning and Public Policy, Emeritus at Harvard University, holding joint appointments at the Graduate School of Design and the John F. Kennedy School of Government. He has taught courses in economics, infrastructure, and transportation policy. His research interests encompass transportation, infrastructure, urban economic development, and the privatization and regulation of infrastructure. Gómez-Ibáñez has held several significant roles, including faculty chair of both the Master of Urban Planning Program at GSD and the Master of Public Policy Program at the Kennedy School. He has also led doctoral programs at GSD and served in various leadership positions in academic administration. An accomplished author and editor, his notable works include "Regulating Infrastructure: Monopoly, Contracts, Discretion" and "Going Private: International Experience Transport Privatization." He earned his A.B. in government, M.P.P., and Ph.D. in Public Policy from Harvard University in the early 1970s.
