Biography

Currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Computer Systems at Uppsala University, Sweden, José Mairton Barros da Silva Júnior is part of the Emerging Systems (ECoS) research group. His research focuses on mathematical optimization for future wireless networks, specifically in areas such as federated learning for vehicular networks, machine learning driven mobile networks, and communication efficiency in distributed learning. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden in 2019. He previously earned a BSc (with honors) and MSc in Teleinformatics Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará in 2012 and 2014, respectively. His professional experience includes positions as a research engineer in the Wireless Telecommunication Research Group in Fortaleza from July 2012 to March 2015, an internship at Ericsson Research in Stockholm, visiting researcher at Rice University in Houston, Texas, and a Postdoctoral Researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology from 2019 to 2021. He held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at Princeton University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 2022-2023. José is involved with the IEEE Communications Society, having served as Workshops, Tutorials, & Symposia Officer and co-chair for various international conferences.
