José Padarian Campusano is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the School of Life and Environmental Sciences and the Sydney Institute of Agriculture (SIA) at the University of Sydney. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering with a focus on soil water management at the University of Chile before relocating to Australia in 2012 to join the SIA. José earned his MPhil and PhD in Agriculture, under the supervision of Budiman Minasny and Alex McBratney, where he concentrated on providing soil information through biophysical modeling utilizing machine learning techniques for soil modeling. Throughout his career, he has been involved in both national and international projects, including playing a key role in the GlobalSoilMap project as a Chilean scientific appointee for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which aimed at developing national digital soil maps. As an active open-source user and contributor, José has honed his skills in R, Python, Julia, and Rust for the analysis of large soil profile datasets and soil spectroscopy. His research interests particularly focus on spatio-temporal soil modeling and soil spectroscopy at both regional and global scales, employing advanced machine learning methods to address methodological challenges in the field. José is committed to developing new modeling frameworks for digital soil mapping and soil spectroscopy.
