Biography

José Quinteros is a poultry veterinarian with over a decade of experience in the field of poultry health. He obtained his DVM degree from the University of Chile in 2004 and began his career at Sopraval S.A. where he worked as a field veterinarian, gaining valuable experience in diagnosing and treating diseases in the turkey production sector. After moving to Australia in 2012, he completed a Master of Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne, where he conducted groundbreaking research on the complete genome sequence of Australian strains of infectious bronchitis virus. He then pursued a Ph.D. with a focus on the pathogenicity and tissue tropism of IBV strains. Following his Ph.D., he joined Scolexia Pty. Ltd. as a consultant, where he investigated vaccine efficacy against emerging diseases such as Spotty Liver Disease. He has played a significant role in veterinary education, assuming the position of Head of the Veterinary School at the University of Vina del Mar and later joining the University of Sydney as a Lecturer in Avian Health. His research focuses on avian infectious diseases and he is responsible for the development of surveillance programs targeting infectious bronchitis and other critical poultry health concerns.
