Dr. Jose Romero

Biography

Jose Rafael Romero, MD, completed his residency training in neurology at Boston University Medical Campus and his fellowship training in vascular neurology at the same institution. He obtained his medical degree from Escuela Colombiana de Medicina in Colombia and completed a Master in Epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health. Dr. Romero has been an active investigator with the Framingham Heart Study since 2006, focusing on cerebrovascular disease and its subclinical stages, stroke prevention, cognitive impairment, and dementia through neuroimaging epidemiological studies. His clinical interests center around the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of stroke patients, particularly among racial minority populations. He runs a stroke prevention clinic and is an active member of the Stroke Unit at Boston Medical Center, where he serves as a principal investigator in clinical trials related to acute stroke treatment and secondary prevention. Dr. Romero has published extensively on stroke and cerebrovascular diseases and has contributed significantly to understanding cerebral microbleeds in the general population, leading studies on enlarged perivascular spaces in Framingham Heart Study cohorts.
