Biography

Joseph Battat is a Senior Lecturer in Global Economics and Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is currently a Senior Consultant at the World Bank Group, where he has been since 1989. Battat has held several positions within the World Bank, including head of the Foreign Investment Advisory Services, which advises governments in developing and emerging economies on ways to improve investment climates and stimulate both domestic and foreign investment essential for economic and social development. He has worked in 95 countries throughout his career. Before joining the World Bank, Battat worked as a marketing systems engineer at IBM Canada, specializing in application systems for health care and education. He has also served in academic capacities, such as co-Dean of the MBA program at China's Ministry of Machine Building and as co-Dean of the China Executive Education Program at General Electric. Battat holds an MS in electronics physics from Université de Grenoble, a diploma in political philosophy from Beijing University, and a PhD in international business economics from MIT.
