Biography

Joseph Cafazzo is the inaugural Wolfond Chair in Digital Health and the Executive Director of Biomedical Engineering. He is also a Senior Scientist at the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation at the University Health Network. His career is focused on empowering patients and families through innovative healthcare technology. Joseph has built a network of clinicians, designers, engineers, and researchers to challenge the norms of healthcare. He has led the development of technologies designed to facilitate patient self-care for complex chronic conditions. His work in digital health, particularly in the context of children's diabetes, has been recognized through various awards including the Stanford 2.0 Award and the People’s Choice Award at the World Congress on Health Innovation. Additionally, he has been acknowledged by the Canadian Health Informatics Association and has received the Excellence in Telehealth Award, along with being the recipient of the Career Scientist Award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Joseph also serves as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Digital Health for Health Canada, focusing on clinical engineering, human factors, and health informatics.
