Biography

Joseph (Joey) Davis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at MIT. His research focuses on how cells maintain a delicate internal balance by assembling and dismantling their own machinery, particularly through macromolecular complexes. Davis' lab investigates the construction and degradation of complex molecular machines in cells, utilizing a variety of biochemical, biophysical, and structural approaches, including quantitative mass spectrometry and single particle cryo-electron microscopy. The ongoing projects in his lab are centered on autophagy, an essential eukaryotic protein organelle degradation pathway, and the assembly of ribosomes, which are vital to cellular function.
