Biography

Joseph DeCoste is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Centre for Financial Studies at the University of New Brunswick. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Alberta and is a CFA Charterholder. His research focuses on empirical investigations of development market behaviors, the effects of pricing dynamics on financial assets, and the spillover between financial markets and the real economy. His current inquiries explore the impacts of financialization and indexing on asset behavior in financial markets. In addition to his research, Joseph teaches courses such as Financial Data Analysis, International Financial Management, and Financial Institutions and Markets at both undergraduate and graduate levels at UNB. Recently, he managed UNB’s Student Investment Fund, which exceeds $15 million, providing students with practical experience in asset management. His working papers examine topics such as the effect of excess futures market demand on spot oil prices, the comovement of the S&P 500, and the time-varying country-level oil betas influenced by financial market factors.
