Biography

Joseph P. Donahue is a Clinical Associate Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University. He is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Donahue specializes in arthroscopic, minimally invasive reconstructive surgery for the shoulder and knee in addition to focusing on sports medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University and earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His residency in Orthopedic Surgery was conducted at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Alfred duPont Institute, followed by a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at the Stanford/SOAR Fellowship Program. His research includes developing new techniques and medical devices related to rotator cuff soft tissue repairs. Dr. Donahue is an active member of various professional organizations and has served as Program Director at the SOAR Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. He has been involved with multiple sports medicine roles, including being the Head Team Physician for Santa Clara University’s athletic teams and the San Francisco 49ers, among other teams. Dr. Donahue continues to contribute to the field through his research and involvement in design of surgical devices for arthroscopic procedures.
