Biography

Joseph Falson is an Assistant Professor in Materials Science at Caltech. His research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of quantum materials that exhibit emergent functionalities. Falson's group specializes in the growth of thin films and high-quality crystals, as well as the physical evaluation of materials in extreme environments, such as low temperatures and high magnetic fields. He completed his Bachelor of Science at the University of New South Wales in 2009, followed by a Master of Science degree at Tohoku University in 2012, and a Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 2015. After his graduate studies, he worked as a Visiting Associate at Caltech in 2019 and became an Assistant Professor in 2020. He was recognized as a Hurt Scholar in 2021.
