Biography

Dr. Joseph P. Fiorellini joined Penn Dental Medicine in 2005, where he has been serving as Chair of the Department since June 2015. Before joining Penn Dental Medicine, he was at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he held the position of Vice Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity. He was also the Head of the Division of Periodontology and Program Director of Periodontology. Throughout his tenure at Harvard, Dr. Fiorellini maintained a private practice focused on periodontics and implant dentistry. His research areas include the relationship between genetics and periodontal disease, along with studies related to periodontal regeneration and implantology. He currently serves on the editorial boards of various journals, including the Journal of Periodontology and the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants. Dr. Fiorellini has authored over 50 manuscripts, reviews, and textbook chapters. His research achievements have earned him several awards, including travel grants from the National Institutes of Health and the International Association for Dental Research, as well as recognition from the American Academy of Periodontology.
