Professor Dr. Joseph Francisco

Biography

Joseph S. Francisco focuses on bringing new tools to experimental physical and theoretical chemistry to address atmospheric chemical problems and enhance the understanding of chemistry at the molecular level. His work has led to important discoveries regarding new chemistries occurring at interfaces and cloud surfaces, contributing to a fundamental understanding of new chemical bonding and controlling processes. Currently, he investigates the impacts of solar radiation on the chemistry of clouds and their interfaces, while his research collaborations delve into the details of atmospheric chemistry, particularly concerning acid rain. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has been a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge. Additionally, he has served as a Visiting Associate in Planetary Science at the California Institute of Technology and holds the position of Executive Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
