Dr. Joseph Frassica

Biography

Joseph J. Frassica, MD serves as Professor Practice at the Institute of Medical Engineering and Science at MIT and is a member of the teaching and research staff at Massachusetts General Hospital in Pediatric Critical Care. He holds the position of Pediatric Editor at the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine and has served in multiple academic and industrial leadership roles. Notably, he was the Head of Philips Research Americas and the Chief Medical Officer for Philips in North America. Dr. Frassica's substantial contributions include insights into patient monitoring, alarm management, and therapeutic devices. His research team at Philips Cambridge Lab focuses on leveraging large-scale, high-resolution data to develop predictive models using artificial intelligence and machine learning for clinical decision support and genomic analysis. He has been involved in creating real-time visualization systems and predictive algorithms related to hospital-acquired infections and antibiotic stewardship. Additionally, Dr. Frassica has held key leadership positions in academic medicine and has authored several predictive models in collaboration with academic partners. His educational background includes an MD from Boston University and a DDS from Case Western Reserve University. He completed residencies in Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Massachusetts General Hospital.
