Biography

Joseph N. Goh is an Associate Professor at Monash University, Malaysia, where he teaches and researches in the School of Arts and Social Sciences. Born in Sarawak, Malaysia, Goh has a rich academic background, including a Master of Theology and Licentiate in Sacred Theology earned summa cum laude from the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University in California. His doctoral research employed queer theory to explore the lived experiences of Malaysian gay and bisexual men, resulting in a thesis titled "Piercing Transcendence: Queer Theorising and Theologising Non-Heteronormative Malaysian Men". Goh has published several academic books and edited anthologies, including his 2020 single-authored book, "Becoming Malaysian Trans Man: Gender, Society, Body, Faith", which received a 'Ground-Breaking Subject Matter Accolade' from IBP. His current research interests encompass gender, sexuality, LGBTIQA+ rights, and the impact of COVID-19 on marginalized communities. Goh is a vibrant member of various academic and editorial boards dedicated to queer studies and continues to contribute actively to advocacy for LGBTIQA+ matters in Malaysia.
