Biography

Joseph Greenfield is an Associate Professor of Information Technology Practice and an internationally recognized expert in digital forensics and cyber investigations. He began teaching at USC in 2006 and has developed ten courses in fields such as information security and digital forensics, as well as building academic minors in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics. He co-authored an interdisciplinary degree in Intelligence and Cyber Operations. In 2014, the Ponemon Institute ranked USC among the top ten schools nationally for cybersecurity education. His professional academic research lies in the realm of BitTorrent forensics, specialized server acquisitions, and non-standard information storage containers, focusing on parallel processing of digital forensic artifacts and bitstream imaging. He has been instrumental in establishing an academic alliance with the United States Secret Service and the Los Angeles Electronic Crimes Task Force. Many students he has mentored have pursued careers in law enforcement and private consulting. In addition to his role at USC, he works professionally with Maryman & Associates, a computer forensics firm in Los Angeles, leading cyber breach investigations and serving as an expert witness in various courts.
