Biography

Joseph Harris is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Boston University. He conducts comparative historical research at the intersection of sociology, political science, and global health. He is the author of "Achieving Access: Professional Movements and Politics in Health Universalism" published by Cornell University Press in 2017. Harris has served as the elected Vice Chair of the International Studies Association’s Global Health Section and is a member of the editorial collective for "Studies in Comparative International Development." He is a co-founder of the American Sociological Association’s Global Health Development Interest Group and has previously been a member of the governing Council for the ASA Section on Sociology and Development. Additionally, he was an Associate Editor for "Social Science & Medicine." Harris has received Fulbright scholarships for research on health policy in Thailand. He obtained a doctorate in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master’s in Public Affairs from Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. In 2017, he received the Gitner Award for Distinguished Teaching, awarded as the college’s highest teaching honor.
