Professor Hayes studied medicine at the University of Bristol and trained in psychiatry in Oxford and North London. His work includes consultation for television programmes on mental health, and he is part of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Mental Health. His research focuses on utilizing large electronic health record datasets to understand the aetiology, treatment, and prognosis of severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, collaborating with various prestigious institutions to develop predictive and causal inference machine learning models to improve mental health outcomes.
