Biography

Joseph W. Hogan is the Carole Lawrence Sirovich Professor of Public Health and a Professor of Biostatistics at Brown University, where he also serves as the Chair of Biostatistics. His research focuses on the development of statistical methods for missing data, causal inference, and sensitivity analysis, particularly in relation to HIV/AIDS. Hogan's work is deeply collaborative, and he is the Co-Director of the Biostatistics Program at the AMPATH, an international consortium of universities in Canada and Kenya that concentrates on HIV treatment and prevention efforts in Kenya. His collaborations extend to various NIH-funded projects, including training programs designed to build research capacity in biostatistics at Moi University in Kenya. His teaching encompasses both introductory and advanced courses in biostatistics and he supervises PhD and master's students. His recent work includes advancing statistical methods that optimize the use of limited clinical resources for HIV care in resource-limited settings, and addressing research gaps in HIV drug resistance. Hogan's contributions to biostatistics and public health have earned him distinctions such as Fellow of the American Statistical Association, and he has received several awards for his outstanding statistical applications. He has been actively involved in various professional societies and editorial boards.
