Biography

Joseph Kroll is a Robert Williams Endowed Term Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in experimental particle physics. He has significantly contributed to the study of proton-proton, proton-antiproton, and electron-positron collisions, with research interests that include precision tests of the electroweak model and flavor physics, particularly involving hadrons containing b quarks. Kroll has been a member of several experimental collaborations, including ATLAS at CERN's Large Hadron Collider since 2007, CDF at Fermilab's Tevatron since 1993, OPAL at CERN's LEP Collider from 1989 to 1993, UA1 at CERN's SPS Collider from 1984 to 1989, and R608 at CERN's Intersecting Storage Rings from 1982 to 1983. He has held various academic positions at the University of Pennsylvania since 1997, including Associate Professor with tenure and previously Assistant Professor. Kroll’s research contributions have been recognized through several honors, including being named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2021 and a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2009.
