Biography

Joseph Lariscy is an Associate Professor and Interim Director at the Texas Federal Statistical Research Data Center, specializing in demography and health sociology. He is a social demographer with broad interests that include racial and ethnic health disparities, quantitative methods, and population research. His primary research contributions focus on examining racial and ethnic disparities in U.S. adult mortality risk and how early-life processes, particularly educational attainment and health behaviors, influence later-life health outcomes. His research has advanced the understanding of the linkage between tobacco use and all-cause as well as cause-specific adult mortality in the United States. Lariscy received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013, having trained at the Population Research Center. He furthered his expertise as a NIA Postdoctoral Fellow at the Duke Population Research Institute. His findings have been published in esteemed journals including Demography, Population Research and Policy Review, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, and Social Science & Medicine.
