Joseph Wachelder is an associate professor at Maastricht University, specializing in the history of higher education, particularly in the Netherlands. His research focuses on the interactions between science and culture, including the popularization of accounts related to education and the social implications of various educational artifacts. Wachelder has explored themes such as science shops, toys, design, and other material artifacts that facilitate educational experiences. His work delves into the long-term history of visual phenomena and how these influences can guide both play and experimentation within educational contexts. He has held various influential roles at the university, including chairing the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Board of Examiners and serving as Associate Dean for Education. Outside of his academic responsibilities, Wachelder has been involved with multiple advisory councils, including chairing the Board Museum Valkenburg and acting as vice president for Gewina.
