Josephine (Josie) Chambers is an Assistant Professor at the Urban Futures Studio, Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University. Her research develops and examines approaches to questioning so-called 'inevitable' and unjust futures, fostering collective imagination and agency for sustainable societies. Josie weaves together critical artistic concepts and approaches, collaboratively exploring possibilities for transformative changes among diverse societal groups. She shares recent experiments in social dreaming through her blog, Utopian Pulses, and her latest publication was included in the collection Utopia*Art*Politics, which showcases the work of 33 artist-researcher practitioners experimenting with artistic practices to enable radical imagination in politics. Josie's political ecology training and doctoral research at the University of Cambridge dissected the politics of 'win-win' frames in nature conservation, and subsequent analyses have identified six modes of co-production to navigate power dynamics in sustainability transformations. Currently, she is involved in research projects focusing on sustainable urban futures in Africa, community-led infrastructure, and decolonizing mapping practices in relation to sustainable island futures. In addition to her research, Josie passionately facilitates courses that support students in cultivating their critical and imaginative capacities for sustainable futures, utilizing creative pedagogies to transform classroom dynamics. She is also a musician, engaged in art-research explorations and convening spaces for dialogues at the intersection of music and sustainability.
