Biography

Josephine B. Etowa is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa, specifically within the School of Nursing. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Nursing degrees from Dalhousie University and later earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Calgary. Her research program, grounded in over twenty-three years of clinical practice, addresses health inequities, maternal-newborn health, and the integration of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Dr. Etowa has worked across various capacities within the Canadian health care system as a registered nurse, midwife, lactation consultant, researcher, and educator. Before her current position, she served as an Associate Professor in Nursing at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Health Professions. Additionally, she holds an honorary appointment at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her research interests include health inequities, health care diversity, women's health, qualitative research, and participatory action research approaches.
