Jo Ganter graduated with an MA in Fine Art (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art in 1988. She was a scholar at the British School of Rome in 1989/90. Upon returning to Scotland, she continued her artistic career by teaching at Glasgow School of Art in the Departments of Printmaking and Historical and Critical Studies. In 1994, she received the Boise Scholarship and a fellowship at KALA Arts Institute, which supported her travels to work in print studios in New York and California. Ganter joined the staff at Edinburgh College of Art in 1995 and was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 2003. She has held solo exhibitions at A.I.R. Gallery in New York, Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh, and the Vilnius Academy in Lithuania. Ganter collaborates with musicians to create graphic scores and has led exhibitions at Talbot Rice Gallery and the Kleinert James Center for the Arts in Woodstock, NY. She served as Treasurer of the Royal Scottish Academy for Art and Architecture in 2023. Ganter has experience as an artist-in-residence at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and her work has been acquired by major collections, including the British Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
