Biography

Josh Bonesso is a Research Associate at the University of Western Australia (UWA) Oceans Graduate School. He completed his PhD in Marine Geoscience at the School of Earth Sciences at UWA. His research focuses on understanding ecological-sedimentary connections on inshore islands using multidisciplinary methods that encompass coral reef ecology, sedimentology, paleoecology, and remote sensing/GIS. He aims to provide a novel transdisciplinary approach for investigating historical island development and resilience in the face of global environmental change. His current work includes assessing coral reforestation potential in Cockburn Sound, sediment-nutrient dynamics on remote oceanic atolls, and detecting critically endangered marine fauna via Environmental DNA (eDNA) in Exmouth Gulf. Josh's expertise aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals as he explores ways to mitigate and adapt to climate change while promoting conservation and coastal management.
