Biography

Josh Davies is a medievalist specializing in Old English literature, visual material culture, and medievalism. His current research focuses on cultural memory in medieval Britain, with recent projects including a study of Gothic architecture in North America and essays exploring environment, gender, and community in relation to St Mildrith. His academic work particularly examines the intersections of history, poetry, and visual culture during the early medieval period, as well as perceptions of the environment in medieval Britain. He has a strong interest in the post-medieval reception of medieval culture, especially in how modern translations and appropriations of medieval culture inform literary and visual art. He is also invested in museology, exploring how the presentation of the medieval past alters through time and how it intersects with concepts of national and ethnic identity.
