Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Josh Woods. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Professor Woods joined the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University in January 2020. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in 2008 from Carleton University. After a brief time in industry, he returned to Carleton to pursue a Master’s degree under the supervision of Dr. David Lau, focusing on the application of externally bonded CFRP sheets to improve the seismic performance of deficient reinforced concrete shear wall buildings. Upon completing his Master’s degree, Professor Woods stayed at Carleton University to complete his PhD, contributing to the establishment of the CFI funded Multi-Hazard Research Testing Facility. His PhD work involved participation in a research exchange at the National Centre for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) in Taiwan, focusing on hybrid simulation methods to study the seismic response of shear wall buildings. After completing his PhD, Professor Woods was a postdoctoral fellow at Polytechnique Montreal for a year working on advanced applications of hybrid simulation in earthquake engineering. His research broadly focuses on high-performance materials, large-scale experimental testing, and structural health monitoring for civil engineering structures.
