Josh Babcock is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Brown University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2022. His research primarily focuses on the intersection of colonial images and decolonial futures, exploring how these elements are constructed through various media, contexts, and scales. His current book project, "Image Total Utopia: Desiring Distinction in Multilingual, Multiracial Singapore," investigates the social lives of colonial images and their influence on aspirations of racial and linguistic belonging in the modern world. His work encompasses diverse geographical settings, including Singapore, Western Michigan, and New Orleans, and employs digital ethnography to study media’s role in both online and offline contexts. Babcock's writings have been published in renowned journals such as the American Anthropologist and Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, and he has contributed to platforms like South/South Movement.
