Biography

Joshua Childs is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on the role of inter-organizational networks and cross-sector collaborations in addressing complex educational issues. He investigates collaborative approaches involving local, state, and national organizations aimed at improving academic achievement and opportunities for students in both urban and rural schools. Childs studies factors that affect student engagement, school attendance, and the influence of interscholastic athletics, as well as the design and implementation of educational policy. He co-leads the Expanding Computing Education Pathways Alliance, a consortium aimed at broadening participation in computer science across 30 states. Childs holds a Ph.D. in Learning Sciences and Policy from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.A. in Educational Foundations, Policy, and Practice from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and a B.A. in History and Elementary Education from the University of Tulsa. He has published extensively on topics such as chronic absenteeism and the impact of educational policies on student outcomes.
