Joshua Clayton completed his PhD in Genetics at the University of Western Australia in 2018. His work investigated how microRNAs and enhancers regulate complement receptor gene expression in human immune cells. After joining the team of Prof. Nigel Laing and A/Prof. Gina Ravenscroft in 2018, he contributed to a range of projects involving the characterization of disease-causing short tandem repeat expansions and the development of splicing assays to assess variants of unknown significance impacting mRNA splicing. Clayton has also developed cell and animal models for muscle diseases and worked on testing therapies for the treatment of neuromuscular diseases. His current research focus centers on using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model muscle diseases and test potential treatments.
